This year, handle free appliances and cabinets was a repeating theme at the 2015 Design and Construction week in Las Vegas. Designers liked the chic, modern look that handle-less brings to the kitchen. Without handles, everything is smooth, clean, and simple. The new trend is for appliances, drawers, and cupboards to open with a motion sensor or push-button.
In a video by Consumer Reports, they point out that this trend also has potential for health benefits, along with ascetics. With minimal need for touching surfaces around the kitchen, there is less opportunity for bacteria to spread around the kitchen. However, the technology behind these fancy gadgets can also lead to higher energy usage, as well as more opportunity for things to go wrong in your kitchen.
